Tariff 12E Solar Soaker

What is Ergon Tariff 12E (Solar Soaker)?

If you have solar, are considering a battery, or simply want to reduce your electricity bills, Ergon's Tariff 12E could be one of the most valuable tariffs available for regional Queensland households.

Unlike a standard flat-rate tariff, Tariff 12E rewards households that can use more electricity during the middle of the day, when renewable energy is plentiful.

Between 11:00am and 4:00pm, electricity costs just 7.004 cents per kWh, making it an ideal time to run appliances, charge batteries or electric vehicles, heat your hot water and cool your home.

Why is Tariff 12E ideal for solar?

Your solar system already produces the most electricity during the middle of the day.

On sunny days, your home will use your own solar energy first. If your solar production isn't quite enough, any extra electricity you need during the Solar Soaker period is available at just 7 cents per kWh.

That means even on cloudy days, you can top up your energy needs at one of the lowest electricity rates available.

Even better with a battery

A home battery takes Tariff 12E to another level.

When your solar system doesn't fully charge the battery, you can take advantage of the low daytime rate to top it up.

Your battery can then power your home during the expensive evening peak period, helping reduce the amount of electricity you purchase when prices are at their highest.

The result is greater energy independence, more predictable electricity bills and better use of your battery all year round—not just on perfect sunny days.

Tariff 12F Solar Sharer

What is Ergon Tariff 12F (Solar Sharer)?

Ergon's Tariff 12F (Solar Sharer) is one of the most exciting electricity tariffs introduced in Queensland, offering up to 24kWh of free electricity every day between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

Designed to encourage households to use electricity when renewable energy is abundant, Tariff 12F can deliver significant savings for homes that can shift their electricity usage into the middle of the day.

Whether you're considering solar, installing a battery, or looking for a smarter way to manage your energy costs, Tariff 12F could be worth exploring.

How does Tariff 12F work?

Every day between 11:00am and 2:00pm, you receive:

  • FREE electricity (0 cents per kWh) for the first 24kWh
  • After 24kWh, electricity is charged at just 8.101 cents per kWh
  • From 2:00pm to 4:00pm, electricity remains low at 8.101 cents per kWh

Electricity is more expensive during the evening peak period, so the greatest savings come from making the most of the free midday window.

Why is Tariff 12F perfect for battery owners?

Tariff 12F can completely change the way a home battery works.

On sunny days, your battery will charge from your solar system as normal.

On cloudy days—or whenever your battery isn't fully charged—you may be able to use the free electricity period to recharge your battery, allowing it to power your home through the expensive evening peak.

That means your battery can continue delivering value even when solar production is reduced.

Instead of relying only on sunshine, your battery can also take advantage of free midday electricity.

We'll help you choose the right tariff

Choosing between Tariff 12E and Tariff 12F isn't simply about picking the tariff with the lowest advertised rate.

It's about understanding:

  • How much electricity your home uses during the day.
  • Whether you have, or are planning to install, a battery.
  • How your battery is programmed to charge and discharge.
  • Whether you own an electric vehicle or have other large daytime electrical loads.
  • How much energy can realistically be shifted into the free electricity period.

At True North Solar, we can review your electricity usage and battery performance to help determine which tariff is likely to deliver the lowest annual power bill.

Because getting the right tariff can be just as important as choosing the right solar and battery system.
